Our Church History

Cottonwood Creek Community Church began as a Sunday School of the American Sunday School Union, represented by Sunday School Johnston (Uncle Woody), remembered affectionately for illustrated songs and jawbreakers.  The group met in an old house on Benjamin Five Crow’s place on Cottonwood Creek until 1945 when “people were almost hanging out the windows.”  Land was donated for the church, and years later additional land was donated for the south entrance, basketball court, and some south side parking.  In 2001 the land that is used for a picnic area was donated as well.  The first part of the building was erected in 1945.  The church called Douglas Field as its first pastor in 1947.  The church body was organized in January of 1949 by 33 founding members.

During Cottonwood Creek’s years of ministry, the Lord has graciously blessed the congregation by enlarging and updating the church building in various phases as needed.  The improvements made, whether remodels or additions, helped to facilitate the mission of Christ by reaching the lost and increasing the discipleship ministry of the present members.

The church is an elder-led congregation governed by elders to include the pastor.   We currently average about 60 people in the morning service representing ages from children to 90+ years young.

In summary, we feel the church is an evangelical-Bible believing group of Christians who love the Lord and are seeking the Holy Spirit’s empowerment to glorify Christ and reach the lost.
